Today on Front Porch Friday, I’ll tell you all about Deadly Sin #2 — a sin that is practically an epidemic in today’s world. So click play, and come on over and join me on the porch as we continue our series The 7 Deadly Sins of Women.

Hi! I am from Pennsylvania and am also Scottish.
I love listening to your porch talks. I have been so lonely, that watching you makes it feel like I have a sweet girlfriend sitting in my home and encouraging me.
Continue to do what God has called you to do. You are a precious gift, and so is the message that He has given you to share. Thank you for being a blessing to me.
How fun to hear from you, sweet Pennsylvania lass! Front Porch Fridays are a lot like Hebrews 10:24-25: “Let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.” Thank you for encouraging me. Blessings to you!
I just recently was introduced to you after watching Life Today. I went right to your website. I am currently watching Beauty by The Book- wonderful! Also enjoy the Front Porch Fridays. Thank-you, thank-you!
So happy to meet you, Penni, and so glad you found the Beauty by The Book videos on our site! Thanks for letting me know you’re porch sitting with me. Love!
Second week watching front porch with you. I had gotten off track spiritually and visited my daughter in Houston the beginning of this month and gave me your website. Thanks Laurie for teaching Gods truth.
Thanks for your honesty, Sally — it is SO easy to get “off track” spiritually. But isn’t God amazing?! He never forsakes us. He’s always reaching out to us. And sometimes He does it through those we love the most. Give your daughter my love, and thank YOU for sharing.
i LIVE IN DILLON SOUTH CAROLINGA, I am learning not to feel sorry for me. There is some one who need the help more than me. The Lord gives a ear to listen and jesus give his arms to hug. But we are the one who should be giving the hugs to our fellow christians .
Amen! Thanks for the wonderful “sermon”, Charlotte. So happy to have you on the porch!
I teach Women’s Bible Studies and learned about you when I searched for a new kind of study to teach. The two Bible studies I ordered came yesterday and I sat right down and watched the introduction. I was moved to tears with the sweetness and meaningfulness of your presentation of God’s Word. I will be ordering the member books for the study which will begin in August – “There is a Season.” What a blessing to receive a very brief message that so moves my heart on “Front Porch Friday’s”. Not preachy – just touching and memorable, and helpful. I am from a small, rural town of Musella, Georgia. I live here because I like the simple life, the quiet life, the kind people, the small church, and sitting on my front porch observing God’s creation. I can hardly wait to introduce the ladies of our church to your Bible Studies. I know they are going to love “There is a Season.”Thank you for what you do. Thanks for reminding us that it’s not about us! It’s about Him! We are blessed because you are obedient to your calling.
Ouch, I needed to hear this message as new staff have join our team at work and my responsibilities have shifted. Thank you for reminding me it’s not about me.
Shew!!!! I had to take just a little bit & really sit down to think about this. ALL my life I’ve been “there” watching over, (even as a small child), helping & carrying MORE than my share of the load & that’s the real & honest truth. And now, today, as I do a 14 year recall over my life I can see where that’s not changed. I’m constantly trying to see & do where I can & for whom I can freely & lovingly………Ouuuuu………. That sounds really great. Right? Well, pinch my “self” with a reality check………As I sit & wander back through “”very recent”" memories……..ugh!!!!!…I have to say, “YEP, there ARE still days when it gets to be about me”. YES ME……:( Which, if I’m truthful, ( ;-0) & I am), it goes back to lesson #1…..Thankfully though I can now say I see & recognize those times & can, with His help, bounce back up.
Thank You Lord for Your incredible patience to remind me everyday that’s it”s about YOU!!!!!!
Soooooo. Now I’m guessing what the next self _______ is.
C U then……..;-0)
Laurie – I saw you for the first time at Old River Baptist Church and totally enjoyed you. I listened to your message today and felt like you were talking just to me with the Deadly Sin #2. That hit home with me and made me remember I am happiest when I have focused on others. Thank you for helping me get my focus where it should be.
Hi Laurie, so happy I could see this on Saturday, yesterday was hectic and couldn’t sit for a minute. Anyhow, thank you so much for your ministry, I went back and listened to last weeks and took notes and listened to yesterday’s and have all of my notes in my journal. You are blessing me and believe it or not, the sounds of the birds in the background also minister to me so. I am in San Diego, ca. God Bless you!
Hi Laurie: Wow, ouch!! and amen. Guilty of this deadly sin and didn’t recognize it until you so well put it. Thank you from Nova Scotia, Canada.
Hi Laurie,
It is so easy to get caught up with ourselves. I have been diagnosed with severe allergies this past week. I have to focus on everything I eat.
(not fun)
Listening to you helped me to put it in to perspective take care of my health and then focus on someone else who might need help.
Great message! So true about how constantly thinking about your needs and wants turn into self-love. Even in prayer, I need to remember to not always pray about my needs (I will always have a need) but I need to pray for the needs of others. Thank you!! I’m also studying the Biblical Beauty teachings. If no one has told you today, Laurie, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MINISTERING TO AND TRAINING US IN GOD’S WORD! I’m in my 20s and I’ve never heard this before. You are awesomely amazing and a total blessing to all of us. God bless you!
